New cover version: ‘The Sound of Silence’ by Simon & Garfunkel

There are some songs that you approach with great caution. ‘The Sound of Silence’ is one of them: everyone knows it, and that is precisely what makes covering it such a risky business. Even the slightest unnecessary flourish stands out.

So we went back to basics – two voices, nothing else to start with. That’s how Simon and Garfunkel first recorded it, before the record label added drums and electric guitars without their knowledge. That version – the most stripped-back one – remains, in our view, the most authentic.
